A multinational Pharmaceutical company is looking to appoint a Microbiology Supervisor on a permanent basis to their UK headquarters in East Anglia. The role comes with a relocation package of up to GBP8,000 which includes assistance for removal vans, Estate Agent costs, hotel costs whilst looking for a property (two trips) and even 6 months free rent if needed on a reimbursement basis.

Ideally we are looking for people with a Sterile manufacturing background however candidates with Solid Dosage, Inhalation, API or other dosage forms will be considered with the prerequisite GMP experience.


As a member of the microbiology team responsible for the effective management of the microbiology testing and contamination control support for production areas, the successful candidate will provide microbiological expertise to the site, including sterility assurance expertise and ensure effective resource management, delivering continuous improvement through the implementation of LEAN techniques and appropriate new technology.


- Management of the microbiology resources and perform microbiology related tasks on site:
- Leadership and co-ordination of a group of analysts involved in routine and non-routine product testing and environmental microbiological testing.
- Maintenance of equipment and facility as per GMP standards and company policies
- Driving a culture of continuous improvement within the laboratory
- Effective investigation of microbiological issues both within the laboratory and around site where appropriate and the identification and implementation of CAPA
- Preparation of validation protocols, co-ordination of testing and preparation of reports
- Preparation of documentation for review by regulatory authorities
- Operate within budgetary requirements
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements
- Lead investigations into any adverse trends, deviations or excursions related to the production or quality control tests for microbiological safety in compliance with Thetford local procedures, global requirements and relevant regulations
- Lead laboratory and manufacturing projects and validations to support GMP infrastructure from microbiology perspective
- Support parametric release program through conducting the necessary experiments and reviews of steam sterilization and microbiology testing records.
- Ensure governing documents for manufacture and testing of products are kept up to date to meet local, corporate and regulatory expectations
- Ensure following the set EHS and 6S requirements and actively participate in audits and prepare risk assessments, communicate any EHS, GMP and/or quality issues with site management.
- Perform sampling and testing using appropriate equipment and facility when required


Bachelors or higher Degree in Microbiology or similar scientific discipline


Minimum 5 years in pharmaceutical microbiology function

Required skills:

Knowledge and practical experience in GMP

Root cause analysis techniques

Knowledge of EU GMP, Ph. Eur. and relevant ISO standard requirements

Sterility Assurance

Sterility Testing

Water Testing

Environmental Monitoring Methods and Cleanroom Classifications

Experience with terminally Sterilised pharmaceutical products - knowledge of Steam sterilization
