Like many parts of the DWP, Private Pensions is undergoing significant changes. We have already rolled out Automatic Enrolment to over 600,000 employers and over 8m people. We are continuing to work on the Defined Benefit system with colleagues at the Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund. Pension Wise is providing an excellent service to people making decisions on retirement. And we continue to work with HMT and the FCA to ensure that the Freedom and Choice reforms are effective.

For the coming year we have an additional challenge. We are setting up a new Arms Length Body, which will take on the responsibilities currently lying with Pension Wise, The Pensions Advisory Service and the Money Advice Service. The legislation to set up this organisation was introduced into Parliament at the very beginning of the session.

Given the additional pressures we are looking for a Deputy Director to take forward the work on a number of programmes.

This will be an extremely interesting and challenging role for a motivated individual. You will be delivering a new Arms Length Body (ALB) that is effective, fully staffed and successfully moves functions from three organisations into one, which is no small task. The issues around guidance and advice in pensions and debt are very high profile. Policy responsibility for the area is split between HMT and DWP, delivery across a number of organisations, including the wider financial services industry and the voluntary sector. This provides the area with a number of challenges, particularly given the need to continue to improve the support for individuals in these areas.
