Regional Underwriting Manager

GBP65,000 to GBP80,000 dependant on experience, plus excellent benefits

We are seeking a senior Manager to play a key role within our commercial division in Manchester. As Regional Underwriting Manager, you will be responsible for the profitable development of business within the North West Region extending to include the Midlands and Scotland area. You will do this through the monitoring of account performance, control of underwriting standards, business development activity and ensuring quality of business.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development of tactical and strategic underwriting plans for the Region
  • Monitoring the performance of accounts and lines of business for the Region, identifying under and over performance, implementing remedial and opportunity actions as appropriate.
  • Supporting other Managers, Business Developers and Underwriters on Broker business development activities and opportunities.
  • Operating as the highest point of technical referral within the Region, having appropriate input into large and complex cases and dealing with case referrals
  • Monitoring, organising and leading technical training within the Region, particularly Underwriter participation in the Underwriting Academy.
  • Allocating, monitoring and controlling individual Underwriter authorities.
  • Contributing to the development of individual Branch and Regional Business plans.
  • Some line management responsibility for Underwriting Managers.

  • Significant underwriting experience with emphasis on Property and Casualty.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of General Commercial and Engineering product lines.
  • Advanced leadership skills.
  • Advanced trading skills.
  • Excellent organisational and commercial skills.
  • Self-motivated and confident working on own initiative.
  • Achievement orientated.
  • Proven track record of establishing, developing and maintaining internal and external networks.
  • Ability to develop Underwriting staff.
