The School of Education is seeking to appoint a Research Associate with a background in quantitative social sciences (psychology, human geography, sociology, education) and expertise in quantitative secondary data analysis to work with Dr. Shelley McKeown Jones, Dr. Amanda Williams, Dr. Liz Washbrook and Dr. David Manley on an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded research project "The changing landscape: diverse friendships and the effects of contextual diversity on youth outcomes".
The aim of this project is to examine the predictors of diverse friendships and the consequences this diversity has, at multiple levels (i.e., interpersonal, school, and neighbourhood), on youth educational attitudes and aspirations, and physical and mental health outcomes. Working together with project consultants from National Children\'s Bureau, this project will address gaps in the research literature and inform evidence based policy and practice to promote youth outcomes.
The post holder will be responsible for working along with the project team in reviewing the relevant research literature, collating data sources, analysing data, preparing academic papers for publication and posting materials on the project website.
Applicants should have completed or be about to complete a Ph.D in a social science discipline with a strong quantitative focus; have experience in working with secondary data sets and conducting advanced statistical analysis; have experience of managing data and working within ethical guidelines; have a record of publishing in academic journals; be able to work independently, as well as part of a team; and have excellent communication and organisational skills.
The post will start on 1st December 2017 (or as soon as possible thereafter), and is fixed-term for 12 months. The post is equivalent to 1.0 FTE over the duration of the project, however, working hours will fluctuate according to the timetable of the project. The exact working pattern is to be negotiated with Shelley McKeown Jones.
