We're looking for someone with proven housing law and debt advice knowledge to join our 'Through the Gate' team at HMP Northumberland as a Resettlement Worker.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no-one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

Shelter has been contracted to deliver housing, employment coordination, finance and debt advice in HMP Northumberland. This service consists of a Resettlement Team based on site delivering advice via the resettlement planning process. This will involve close working with both the prison and CRC staff to create an effective and efficient resettlement planning process for each offender that comes into custody at a Resettlement prison. You'll play an integral part in this.

About the role

As a Resettlement Worker you will be part of a dedicated team delivering a professional, outcome focussed Resettlement Service to offenders, either on site or via outreach at additional HMP locations within your CPA. This will include completing resettlement plans for each offender and delivering induction, group work, wing surgeries and pre-release planning. Carrying out housing, finance and debt interventions and co-ordinating employment and other pathway interventions by managing referrals to appropriate providers is also required.

About you

You'll have considerable experience of housing law and debt advice and of supporting individuals seeking employment, together with a good understanding of the main issues affecting homelessness and offenders. Experience of providing advocacy on behalf of clients to other agencies and authorities is important too, as is a proactive, client-focused and collaborative approach, great relationship building skills, respect for others' opinions and the ability to deal effectively with change. Proficient in the use of MS office applications, you'll have good typing skills, a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Benefits include 30 days' annual leave, the possibility of flexible working, enhanced family friendly policies and significant opportunities for learning and development

At Shelter, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We are facing diverse problems, so need diverse people to tackle them.

Shelter is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of clients, in particular children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff, workers and volunteers to share this commitment.

Shelter does not accept unsolicited CVs from external recruitment agencies nor accept the fees associated with them.
