REGIONAL ORGANISER (NUT Section)

Ref - RO15

Based in the NUT Section - South East Regional Office (Ardingly, Haywards Heath)

Commencing salary GBP32,694 per annum

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

Combining the expertise and experience of both the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Education Union is the largest education union in Europe and the fourth largest union in the Trades Union Congress (TUC). We are an effective and powerful voice - championing everyone who works in education.

The educational landscape is changing at a rapid pace with the expansion of the government's academies and free schools programme, cuts in education funding, along with attacks on teachers' pay, conditions and professionalism. As a Union, working within such an environment presents us with a number of challenges, but it also provides an exciting opportunity to build a democratic, lay led union by empowering members and supporting local structures.

We are currently looking to appoint a permanent Regional Organiser in the South East Regional Office - who, working closely with NUT Divisions, will play a dynamic and crucial role in building and empowering sustainable lay structures by working with members in schools that currently are not providing proper facility time release for elected NUT representatives. The work will involve encouraging schools to pay into the arrangements for providing facilities time locally, recruiting, supporting and training work place representatives and assisting them undertake all types of individual and collective casework including representing members at hearings where schools do not contribute to wider facility arrangements.

If you have a knowledge of the trade union movement, an understanding of the issues relating to membership recruitment and retention, excellent organising skills and knowledge, and the abilities to deal with members' casework we would like to hear from you.

Commencing salary is GBP32,694 per annum, inclusive of Luncheon Allowance of GBP948 per annum, together with good conditions of service including 31 ?? days leave, generous concessionary leave at Christmas/New Year and after some bank holidays and a contributory final salary pension scheme.

A full and valid driving licence is essential as the role will require extensive travel by car throughout the regional area for which a Union car will be provided.

Further details and an application pack can be downloaded from our website via the button below.

Completed application forms must be returned to the NUT Section Headquarters by mid-day Wednesday 27th September 2017.
