What's the job?
This is a new post which reflects our belief that planning is central to our growth ambitions and to ensure that Selby is a great place to do business, live and to visit .Delivering quality development at the right time and in the right place and which reflects the needs and views of our communities is central to the councils vision and your role. You will work alongside the newly created Economic Development and Regeneration Teams to enhance Selby's reputation and its role as the fastest growing District in North Yorkshire.
Selby is a small District with big ambitions. Our population is growing quickly and we aim to achieve a step change in housing delivery and place making. There are lots of big projects to work on; urban extensions, former colliery site regeneration, town centre enhancement, investment in our historic buildings and Conservation areas, energy and national infrastructure projects.
We have recently centralized all our planning functions; policy, development management enforcement and planning administration into a single service. As the new Head of Service, you will be expected to develop a pro-active culture at which the well advanced local plan will play a key role. This will sit alongside our forward thinking Economic Development Strategy. We have recently completed a review of our Development Management service with the aim of becoming the best district council planning service in the country.
You will be expected to work closely with key partners including North Yorkshire County Council, Historic England and the Local Economic Partnership to help make Selby an even better place.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced planning professional who will be excited by our challenges and the opportunities to develop their career and who is able to work at both a strategic level and is able to translate policies into action on the ground. Ideally, you will have experience of both plan making and development management and have helped to deliver major development projects in either the public or private sectors.
