An experienced Property Underwriter is required by one of the UKs leading specialist personal and business insurance providers to join their team based in Cheltenham.

The Role:

Reporting to the Head of Product and Capacity, as a Property Underwriter you will be responsible for achieving business income and Target Loss Ratios objectives by managing the technical performance of accounts and Insurer performance by delivering an efficient underwriting service to all key stakeholders. You will work with those stakeholders to help develop new markets and products within the Property / Leisure Home Proposition.

Your day to day responsibilities will include:

-Responsible for delivery of Target COR agreed with our Insurer partners, taking remedial action when required and agree Underwriting Bridge/ Rating/ Pricing and terms with Insurers
-Support and contribute to the maintaining of the culture that motivates individual and team performance, maintaining positive and professional team morale.
-Complete regular 121s with Direct reports and hold regular team meetings
-Accountable for the achievement of individual and team objectives including required service level agreements in line with the business plan.
-Comply with Binder, procedures and underwriting authority levels. Ensure that all activity across the business unit is completed in a compliant manner adhering to the Group Control Framework.
-Achieve required quality assurance targets within your area of responsibility, develop robust monitoring of both internal staff and external partners and where required develop and deliver action plan to take the appropriate remedial actions to address short comings
-To form an integral part of the team working alongside the Head of Product & Capacity and other key stakeholders participating in regular review of activities, targets, performance and new initiatives.
-Accountable for the short, medium and long term placement strategy of the business unit including new products and new markets, by carrying out regular analysis of MI and other data to identify market trend and developments.
-Maintain an effective working relationship with all other business leaders to ensure that there is effective co-ordination of all company activities in support of corporate objectives, working collaboratively with other parts of the organisation and external customer, when required.
-Responsible for engaging with the underwriting team and insurers to maintain competitive advantages and optimum commercial performance
-Responsible for the allocation of underwriting authorities within the business unit and ensure that acceptable standards are maintained by the implementation of a structured audit and quality review programme to develop competence.
-Support the HOPC and Senior Management Team to deliver commercial momentum.

The successful Property Underwriter will demonstrate:

-Minimum of 5 years in a similar role within Insurer, MGA or Broker Environment
-ACII Qualified
-The ability to lead, support, coach, monitor, inspire and engage multiple stake holders in a demanding and pace driven environment
-Ability & confidence to clearly communicate complex strategies and concepts at a senior level
-Ability to build a more dynamic Underwriting and Product driven culture across the marine business unit,
-Support, develop and where appropriate lead training and development of team members and wider community utilising existing skills and knowledge
-Ability to demonstrate strong commercial focus and business acumen
-Excellent one-to-one and group presentation and verbal and communication skills
-An excellent interpersonal style with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels
-Adaptable and able to respond to changing business challenges
-Able to translate business requirements/detailed plans and functional strategy in a meaningful way to stakeholders and business
