Medical Writer

Reporting to: Hematology and Oncology Scientific Director

Main purpose of job:

  • Contributing to the development of Scientific Proposals
  • Developing scientific content across a range of materials
  • Managing and working with Editorial Assistant(s)

Responsibilities:

Writing responsibilities, including:

  • Abstracts
  • Manuscripts for medical and scientific journals
  • Slide decks for congress presentations
  • Advertising copies for pharmaceutical companies
  • Advisory Board and Steering committee meeting summaries
  • Marketing materials
  • Medical meeting materials: abstracts, posters, slides and meeting summaries
  • Monographs
  • Patient education materials
  • White papers
  • Sales training materials
  • Press releases
  • Referencing materials

Editorial responsibilities, including:

  • Updating and rewriting material
  • Proofing and copy-editing
  • Provide overall medical/scientific support to the Scientific team

Medical meetings attendance including:

  • Selection of the most important abstracts
  • Attendance to the selected sessions
  • Comments and pictures of the selected sessions
  • KOLs interviews
  • Provide medical writing adaptable to different media formats:
  • Traditional print publications
  • Electronic publications
  • Multimedia presentations
  • Videos
  • Podcasts
  • Website content
  • Various social media sites (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook)
  • Help develop applications for mobile devices (content)
  • Management responsibilities
  • Management of the Editorial Assistant(s)

Attributes:

  • Life science degree
  • Excellent client or KOL facing skills both one-to-one and one-to-group
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in medical education or medical communication
  • Smart appearance and demeanour
  • Good attention to detail for written work
  • Ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties
  • Willing to learn new skills
  • Proficient in all areas of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Hardworking adaptable and can work confidently within a group Ad hoc responsibilities:
  • Organising and managing personal diary
  • Maintaining a polite and presentable image at all times
  • Managing the Editorial Assistant(s)
