Senior Public Affairs Officer
Permanent - Full Time (36 hours)
Salary - GBP37,347 Per annum

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) regulates nurses and midwives in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland setting standards of education, training, conduct and performance so that nurses and midwives can deliver high quality healthcare throughout their careers.

This role will be responsible for the delivery of the public affairs strategy, focusing on developing and managing relationships with key political stakeholders to enable the team to deliver our corporate objectives. Sitting within the Communications team, the successful candidate will plan and implement a programme of public affairs activities to ensure key messages relating to specific projects are clearly communicated.

The successful candidate will support the Public Affairs and Stakeholder Manager in managing our interaction with strategic stakeholders across the UK Parliament and devolved institutions.

Skills and experience required

  • Educated to a degree level or holds equivalent experience.
  • Experience within public affairs or external relations function is essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of the UK political landscape and how Westminster, Whitehall and the devolved institutions operate.
  • Sound judgement, with a good understanding of the external influences that have an impact on the NMC's ability to deliver its core regulatory responsibilities.
  • Ability to prepare, interpret and present complex information to a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of working effectively to influence others at a national level.
  • Ability to think broadly and capable of horizon scanning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build strong relationships with senior colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of working in a health or regulatory setting is desirable.
  • Evidential experience of project management is desirable.
