Job Title: Accountant

Location: Burgess Hill


Our client based in Burgess Hill is seeking to recruit a permanent company accountant as part of their robust sales strategy. This will initially be a stand-alone role, within a business of 45 staff reporting to directly to the MD. You will be responsible for the day to day accountancy functions and a key decision maker to assist the growth of the business.


To provide financial information to management by researching and analysing accounting data; preparing reports.

* Initially preparing invoices for the companies external accountants
* Recommends financial actions by analysing accounting options.
* Summarises current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
* Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
* Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
* Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analysing account information.
* Secures financial information by completing data base backups.
* Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
* To make payments to creditors within agreed parameters
* To chase and collect debtors to maintain the cash flow of the business
* Prepares payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
* Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
* Complies with financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
* Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising account information and trends
* Prepare board reports
* Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
* Develop cash flow forecasts
* Prepare the pay role
* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
* Maintain high standards of manner, appearance and integrity.
* Attend training courses as requested.
* Carry out any other duties as required from time to time.
* Contribute to company strategic and tactical initiatives

* Understands funding options for the businesses growth
* Liaises with external accountants.
* Play a robust part in the Management of the business.
* Provide job costing and help commercial pricing strategies


* Recommend and implement a company accounting system
* Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analysing account information.
* Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
* Identify and appoint supportive clerical staff
* Where applicable guiding accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
