HM TREASURY - DIRECTOR GENERAL, ECONOMICS AND CHIEF ECONOMIC ADVISER

Salary: Circa £120,000

Location: London with flexible working options available

HM Treasury is the UK’s economics and finance ministry. Its objectives include promoting sustainable growth, macroeconomic stability and sound and sustainable public finances. It achieves this through planning, controlling and reporting on government spending at home and abroad, and by managing and monitoring revenues through its responsibility for strategic tax policy. HM Treasury plays a critical role at the heart of Government in the UK and, together with the Cabinet Office and Number 10, forms the centre of the Government and wider Civil Service.

The Director General, Economics and Chief Economic Adviser has a critical role to play in delivering the Government’s objectives for macroeconomic stability and maintaining confidence in the macro policy framework; promoting sustainable economic growth and setting and implementing fiscal policy. As a member of the Treasury’s Executive Management Board, this role forms part of the collective leadership of the Department, and has line management responsibility for the Economics and Fiscal Groups, which comprise over 100 staff.   

The successful candidate will have:

·       Economic Credibility: a strong track record on economic policy and thought leadership in macroeconomics;

 

·       Leadership: outstanding leadership and management skills, including a proven record of accomplishment in leading teams and an agenda in a complex environment;

 

·       Stakeholder Engagement & Influencing Skills: strong influencing and interpersonal skills, able to work well with very senior stakeholders; and

 

·       Representation Skills: ability to provide constructive challenge to, and positive engagement with, UK and international organisations.
