We are currently seeking a Research Analyst for a leading Financial Planning and Wealth Management company based in South Birmingham.

This role sits within the Group Research team. Analysts will specialize in either collectives or equity research. The direction of focus for research will be driven by the Group Head of Research. All research output should be produced in a prescribed standardized format to facilitate transparency and make it easier for other stakeholders to understand the basis of recommendations and provide feedback or challenge of necessary.

Priority will need to be given to areas where there is higher demand for research coverage at any point in time. This will be based on the needs of the entities which the research department serves.

Equity Research Responsibilities
Conduct ad-hoc industry analysis, identify macro themes and trends.
Work with other team members to create periodic sector/industry outlooks.
Monitor and interpret major company developments and write detailed summaries for stocks across multiple market capitalizations and geographies as required.
Work closely with Portfolio Managers to coordinate research and generate ideas.
Create profitable trade recommendations for SJAM clients.
Interact with industry contacts, investor relations personnel, and senior management at target companies.

Collectives Research Responsibilities
Perform quantitative analysis on funds in order to identify top performing fund managers in the investment universe.
Perform due diligence on fund managers, in order to ascertain their ability to consistently add alpha above their respective benchmarks.
Produce research reports on fund managers across multiple asset classes and investment strategies.
Portfolio Construction Responsibilities
Construct and monitor model portfolios across multiple investment platforms.
Assist portfolio managers with the construction of bespoke portfolios for clients.
Operational Responsibilities
Responsible for operational tasks within the investment research team.
Ensure that the compliance folder is kept up to date with all KIIDs, fund factsheets, RFPs etc.
Assist in the management of the various funds managed by the group.
Maintain all operational spreadsheets used by the investment research team.
Assist in other duties as required by the team leader and other senior team members.

Other Responsibilities
Assist portfolio managers with the construction of bespoke portfolios for clients.
Assist in spreadsheet maintenance and any other operational tasks required.
Key Requirements
A disciplined approach to research with the ability to analyze multiple aspects of a company/industry and write objective reports.
Good quantitative skills with an ability to decipher company financial statements.
Strong communication and presentation skills as the candidate will be expected to periodically present reports at investment committee meetings.
Strong conviction with the ability to convince portfolio managers and other team members to agree on ideas they present.
A strong grasp of Microsoft Excel with the ability to build financial models.
Other Requirements
A graduate degree in a quantitative subject, preferably economics or finance.
Should ideally have the IMC, and some progress on the CFA would be a plus.
Knowledge of Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, or other financial software
