  • Purpose:

    Reporting to, and under the general direction of the Head of Audit for Insurance, General Insurance, Mature Savings & LGC, this role requires the job holder to execute a programme of Internal Audit work.

    Deliver the objectives of each audit in line with Legal & General's GIA audit methodology and quality standards, and benchmarked against the standards of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA).

    Support the Group Chief Internal Auditor (GCIA) in fulfilling GIA's primary role of supporting the Group Audit Committee and Executive Management in the protection of the assets, reputation and sustainability of Legal & General.

    Principal Accountabilities:

    Deliver internal audit work on a variety of audit assignments as determined by the risk-based Audit Plan.

    Produce high quality audit work that is delivered on time and complies with GIA methodology and quality standards.

    Perform audits efficiently, and escalate any issues arising over the delivery of the audit opinion in a timely manner.

    Maintain effective working relationships with audit stakeholders.

    Contribute effectively to the audit team, and the continuous development and achievement of GIA's vision to be recognised as a leading edge internal audit function.

    Take personal responsibility for developing his/her own professional knowledge, skills and subject matter expertise.
  • Skills Required
  • Qualifications

    Professional auditing, accounting or actuarial qualification (CIIA, ACA, ACCA, CISA, IRM) or equivalent business experience.


    Understanding of risk management principles and practices.

    Conduct and Prudential Regulatory Risk, Corporate Governance practices and frameworks.

    Life and pensions insurance products.

    Awareness of L&G's businesses and strategy, and the external commercial influences on them

    Awareness of key regulations affecting relevant L&G business areas

    Awareness of specialist topics developing and growing towards one or more specialist topics


    Internal Audit principles and practices, internal audit and assurance delivery.

    Internal audit within the Finance & Insurance industry is an advantage.


    Demonstrates core auditing skills including both oral and written communications


    Energetic and enthusiastic with a strong work ethic and commitment to high quality work.

    Contributes purposeful, constructive scrutiny and challenge through sound, independent judgement and common sense.

    Has an organised approach to managing workload and meets deadlines

    Builds good working relationships with all colleagues and stakeholders including mid-tier management

    Escalates and shares information appropriately

    Displays tenacity and resilience in executing audits and resolving audit issues, while remaining objective

    Demonstrates an understanding of key risk areas when performing an audit

    Our view is that this role is suitable for agile working. This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. For this role, you would be based in Hove, but you could work in other Legal & General offices or at home, as necessary, provided this meets business needs.
