HRS - Systems Biophysics and Optogenetics

The Biometrology group at NPL is a growing multidisciplinary team of scientists developing innovative materials and methods to advance the current understanding of biological processes at the biomolecular, subcellular and cellular levels. Our research responds to the challenges of reproducibility, traceability and comparability in biological R&D as well as the lack of suitable biological standards. We apply this knowledge to address global challenges in the areas of national and global priorities including antimicrobial discovery, cell and gene therapies, regenerative medicine and synthetic biology.

The team wishes to recruit a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with a strong background in synthetic biology and/or live cell imaging. The successful candidate will support the delivery of an interdisciplinary research programme with a particular focus on the development of optogenetic methods for applications ranging from antimicrobial discovery to cell and gene therapies.

The scientist will engage in experimental developments across the mainstream biometrology programme contributing with associated data analysis, the preparation of research reports for publication and external funding applications.

Experience in biophysical spectroscopy / microscopy, the biosynthesis of natural products, biocatalysis and optogenetics.

Based in a unique, purpose-built research environment, we are located in beautiful surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park, south-west London with a host of onsite facilities. These include a subsidised cr??che, restaurant and free parking.
