Opportunity for a talented Financial Controller to join a well-funded London based IoT start-up focused on residential property tech


Switchee is a connected homes / IoT start up founded 3 years ago.  We are rolling out the first ever smart thermostat designed for landlords and are scaling up our team to meet significant customer demand. We have a highly capable, academically accomplished and driven hardware, firmware and commercial team comprising 10 people.

At the core of our proposition is data, collected through a hardware device we have built in-house, which we use to deliver savings to both residents and landlords. Our first market is UK social housing where we have a social mission to combat fuel poverty. As well as reducing energy bills, we help landlords cut maintenance costs by helping to detect issues such as boiler faults and mould growth.


This is an excellent opportunity for a talented Financial Controller looking for a role in a rapidly expanding technology company. You will take responsibility for all day to day company finances and financial processes as well as some office administration. We are a small but fast growth company and you will be responsible for improving and professionalising our financial controls. As a result, proven financial controller experience is essential.

The role also carries a lot of time flexibility. We are looking for 1-3 days per week and this could, for example, be structured around other work or childcare commitments.

   Main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Day to day accounting and bookkeeping including all reconciliations
  • PAYE submissions and payroll
  • Quarterly VAT returns
  • Sales invoice production in liaison with sales and operations
  • Receiving and processing all invoices, expense forms and requests for payment
  • Experience with physical stock shipments and the logistical processes behind them
  • Cash flow management, debt recovery and forecasting
  • Help with submission of year end accounts
  • Assist with R&D tax claim
  • Developing financial management mechanisms that minimize financial risk
  • Develop and document business processes to maintain & strengthen internal controls 
  • Office administration including booking meeting, travel and accommodation


  • At least two years experience in a similar role
  • Hold or be working towards an AAT certificate or related qualification
  • Extensive Xero experience
  • An eye for detail and the big picture
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Ability to work on their own and as a part of the team
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Bonus skills:

  • Experience in start-ups and technology is desirable
