The Institute for Statistical Science, part of the School of Mathematics, University of Bristol, is seeking to appoint academics at the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer and Reader level (roughly Assistant Professor thru Associate Professor in the US system).

In recent years, the collection, modelling and analysis of data has become vitally important to a rapidly growing number of fields of human endeavour. It is clear that future economic growth and development of human well-being will be enhanced by the statistical and data sciences. The University of Bristol is committed to being at the forefront of this revolution and to strategic expansion of the Institute for Statistical Science. For example, the University established the Jean Golding Institute in 2016 as a focus for data science activity across the university. Furthermore, the School of Mathematics will move into a newly refurbished state-of-the-art building designed for mathematical science research and teaching. The Institute for Statistical Science will occupy dedicated co-located space within this beautiful building, which will stimulate further growth of faculty, research staff and students, both postgraduate and undergraduate.

The School of Mathematics performed particularly well in the last Research Excellence Framework confirming its position in the elite handful of UK mathematics departments (ranked joint 5 th for GPA, and 4 th for research intensity). The School has strong links with the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research, which supports activities in Probability and Statistics among others, funds a total of about 20 postdoctoral fellows, and runs a co-ordinated series of seminars, research programmes, conferences and workshops.

The Institute currently has research interests across a broad range of Statistical Science and seeks strong researchers and dedicated teachers who will either strengthen or complement our existing areas. The University offers competitive salaries, an outstanding research environment and access to excellent students. The city of Bristol is routinely ranked as the best city to live in the UK, and is a major centre for technology, innovation and creativity.

Informal enquires are welcome and can be directed to Prof. Jens Marklof FRS (Head of School, ) as well as the Institute Director Prof. Guy Nason ().

The School of Mathematics is a supporter of the LMS Good Practice Scheme aiming at advancing women\'s careers in mathematics and we therefore particularly welcome applications from women for this post.
