Youth Work Manager
A unique opportunity for an experienced manager to lead on the youth work provision at Carlisle Youth Zone
Carlisle Youth Zone represents a modern, engaging, exciting and relevant take on the youth clubs of the past. It is open to all young people, aged 7 to 21 and up to 25 for young people with special educational needs, and serves the social, recreational and emotional needs of young people of the area. Originally modelled on the highly successful Bolton Lads and Girls Club, we are now approaching our 7th birthday and going from strength to strength, with visits currently standing at just over 1000 per week. The Youth Zone is a purpose built, GBP5 million buildings with facilities that include astro-turf pitches, 4-court sports hall, climbing wall, dance / drama studio, fully equipped gym, music room, sensory room and training kitchen. We work hard - having overcome many obstacles in our short history (including being completely devastated by the Carlisle floods of 2015) - and are proud of both what we have achieved and how we have done it as a team, together - having just been awarded "Best Place to Work" in the Carlisle Living Awards 2017.
The Youth Work Manager will lead the team of staff and volunteers in delivering a vibrant, open-access Youth Zone for the young people of Carlisle, and also have responsibility for targeted projects to provide more focussed support. The post holder will be required to ensure the Youth Zone provides a safe, inclusive and positive environment and take a lead role in constantly evaluating and improving the offer to young people.
With substantial experience of working with young people, you will have successfully led a team to deliver services and have a passion for supporting young people, underpinned by either a professional qualification in youth work or equivalent skills and competence. With experience of programming a diverse range of activities for young people and good organisational and IT skills, you are able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. You will also have a considered and decisive approach, strong interpersonal skills and a high standard of personal effectiveness.
Carlisle is ideally located between Scotland and the Lake District, and is known as the Great Border City, with direct links to the West Coast train line and the M6.
