St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1, the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short, it is a great place to live and work .

You will be working in a team that responds to planning consultations, nuisance investigations, and will support the team in its other functions of air quality and private water supplies.

With a good understanding of local government and the wider context of Environmental Health, you will have experience of dealing with contaminated land issues, and will be expected to lead on such matters within the team.

You'll need to be effective at handling customer complaints and have good investigative, decision-making and problem solving skills; as well as being able to manage your time effectively, work as part of a team and have good interpersonal skills and communicate effectively.

A degree or diploma in Environmental Health, or an equivalent relevant qualification, is essential and experience of computerised records systems such as Northgate M3PP would be a distinct advantage.

We offer a competitive package which also includes up to 26 days annual leave (pro rata), employer pension contributions of up to 18.5%, reimbursement of professional fees, comprehensive management development and training, flexible working options (including homeworking), leisure and travel discounts and a number of other benefits that are available.
