As a SLD teacher, you should have a good knowledge of the SEN curriculum and assessment techniques or are willing to take part in training for this. SLD teachers will also be required to take part in personal care tasks (feeding and toileting etc.) and should be able to adapt session plans to suit all children's needs. The school have an excellent induction programme and therefore will accept applications from newly qualified teachers as well as experienced SEN teachers.
The successful SLD teacher will have:
- Had classroom based experience either in mainstream or SEN
- Have experience teaching SLD students
- Strong subject knowledge of the primary national curriculum
- Experience using PECs and Makaton (preferable but not essential)
- Team Teach (A huge bonus but not essential)
- Has QTS
The school are looking for practitioner's that have a positive attitude and are committed to providing the best amount of support for their students. They run a hugely successful training programme and will train all staff in Moving and Handling and Team Teach training (if you do not already have these). Teachers and support staff with a particular interest in performing arts also have the opportunity to take part in their outreach program which aims to engage students who are underachieving through drama, dance and music.
If you are interested in the role and feel that you have the skills and experiences suited then please send through your CV today.
