LOCATION: Thetford, Norfolk
JOB TITLE: Chef / Sous Chef
SALARY & BENEFITS: circa £18,000 to £20,000 dependent on skills and experience plus benefits
WORKING HOURS: Full Time – 08:30am – 5:30pm will require to work 2 in 3 weekends

THE COMPANY: Our client operates a popular coffee shop and restaurant café with a 5 star hygiene certificate located within an independent garden centre. The Restaurant & Cafe has recently undergone a refurbishment to accommodate more seating and will also be increased in size in March 2018, and during this time of change, they now seek an experienced, passionate and creative Chef / Sous Chef to join the existing kitchen & catering team. Our client offers traditional home cooked dishes such as British Beef Lasagne, Seasonal Dishes, Roast Dinners, Smoked Bacon & Cheddar Tart, Rich Tomato & Basil Soup as well as made to order sandwiches on crusty bread, ‘Bakemaster’ oven baked jacket potatoes, as well as selection of delicious cakes and treats and has big plans for 2018!

THE ROLE: As a Chef / Sous Chef you will report to, work alongside and assist the Head Chef and Catering Manager to evolve and develop the menu and dishes to ensure the Restaurant becomes a market leader. This is a great opportunity for a trained chef looking for more responsibilities and to take that next step in your career. As well as overseeing the kitchen and leading staff in the absence of the Head Chef, you will assist with and take a hands on approach to preparing of meals, dishes and cakes, assist with cleaning duties and ensure the that agreed standards are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities for the Chef / Sous Chef role in Thetford, Norfolk include:
  • Prepare and cook food and ensure that all dishes leaving the kitchen meet the company's excellent high standards
  • Assist the Head Chef & Catering Manager with the daily menu plans, create new dish ideas
  • Complete opening and closing procedures, ensure the communication book is read before every shift, and take a hands on approach to the cleaning down of the kitchen and utensils
  • Ensure freshness and flavour & use by date of all food through regular tastings each shift as well as ensuring daily administration records are complete
  • Communicate with the Head Chef on a regular basis regarding all stock levels, ensuring stock levels are maintained as per stock order sheets, and carry out stock labelling as well as stock rotation
  • Keep stock usage, wastage, loss and breakages in the kitchen to a minimum level and to record accordingly
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen is kept to the current high standards
  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment is completed in line with the Kitchen Cleaning Schedule and Kitchen Checklists

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate must be someone who has experience working with and preparing food and a valid Food Hygiene certificate. You should be someone who is passionate about food and has the creativity to assist with the planning of dishes and menus. You must be an excellent communicator and have excellent knowledge of kitchen hygiene and Health & safety standards. Any related qualifications are welcome, but most importantly for this role is experience preparing food to a high standard and having a natural passion for food. Candidates must live within commutable distance to Thetford, Norfolk and must be able to commit to the shift pattern of working 2 in 3 Weekends.

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Chef / Sous Chef's role in Thetford, Norfolk :-
  • Must have a valid Food Hygiene certificate and experience working with and preparing food
  • Natural passion for Food and creating dishes and new menu ideas essential
  • Good knowledge of and food hygiene regulations / standards is essential
  • Will have experience or the ability to lead and manage a team of staff
  • Although predominantly Monday – Friday (08:30am to 5:30pm) you must be someone who is flexible and can commit to working 2 in 3 weekends
  • Any related qualifications would be beneficial and welcome
