Last year we opened a new Supported Living services in the Wigan area. We support five men, each in their own home in different locations around Wigan, including the Warrington borders. We are recruiting now for Waking Nights Support Workers. We have both 30 hour and 40 hour positions available. Please state on your application which of these is more interesting for you.


About the role

The men we will be supporting in these single tenancies have learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum disorders. They also have forensic care needs, which means they are at risk of committing offences involving the criminal justice system.

You will be available during the night to provide physical support and emotional reassurance when they are wakeful; checking at regular intervals to ensure they are comfortable and getting a good night's sleep ready for the next day. Sometimes personal care or medication may also be required.

The men are likely to display behaviour that can be challenging. Each man will have a detailed individual support plan to follow, and you will receive full training and the day-to-day help and advice of your line manager.

Waking night duty runs from 22.00hrs to 08.00hrs.

The work can be demanding and doesn't suit everyone, but if it's right for you, you'll find it incredibly rewarding and valuable.


What we need from you

You'll need a positive, non-judgemental approach, and ideally some experience of working with vulnerable people. Perhaps you have a particular interest in psychology, or in developing a career working with people who are on the autistic spectrum.

You'll need to be a clear, creative communicator, able to both respect and reinforce boundaries, and to follow agreed support plans closely and accurately.

It is essential for this position that you hold a full manual driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK, together your own transport which is insured for business use.

Salaries are dependent on successful completion of a 6 month probation period. Part time positions are paid pro rata.
