Support Worker - Orchard Manor

Location: Meldreth, Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border

Salary: £16,731, post probation rising to £17,745 with a level 3 in Childcare or Health and Social Care.

Hours: 39 hours per week (FTE = 40 hours). Shift patterns available include: Full time: Day/Night, Nights only, Part Time: Afternoon/Twilight

Aurora is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. We are currently looking for a Support Worker to join Aurora Orchard Manor.

Orchard Manor provides education, care and therapeutic support for young adults with severe and profound communication difficulties associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury and degenerative disorders. They may have complex health and sensory needs and associated difficulties that require specialist support to enable them to access life skills training.

Orchard Manor shares the site with Meldreth Manor children’s home and school. It is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound redevelopment that will provide contemporary living and learning environments for young people with complex needs. The investment in both the infrastructure and our people will transform Meldreth & Orchard Manor into one of the leading education and care services in the UK.

As a Support Worker, you’ll be helping individuals to live the lives they choose and to ‘empower them to grow’. It’s a really important role, having responsibility for supporting people’s personal, health and care needs. Because you’re with young people for most of the day (or night), you’ll be a vital part of the team that enables them to achieve their full potential.

Regardless of your experience, we will work with you to develop your skills and confidence in the role. Every Support Worker is given an extensive induction which includes group based classroom training.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

To provide the highest level of care for the young person you are working with, which includes:

  • Personal care needs, (washing dressing, moving and positioning, continence care, support with eating and drinking etc.).
  • Social care needs (supporting them to engage in activities they like, either solely or with their peers).
  • Supporting young adults to attend day activities (school, college, skills centre, outings etc.). Ensures individuals, spiritual, cultural and religious choices are met and that they have the opportunities to participate in and access community facilities.
  • To work appropriately and effectively with other external agencies, family members, friends and advocates.
  • To communicate at all times in a polite and professional manner.

Qualifications:

NVQ/QCF - Health & Social Care or equivalent is desirable

Experience:

Experience working in a similar environment is desirable but not essential as full training is given as part of a detailed induction programme.
