Could you support someone with a learning disability, helping him to live more independently?

We are looking for a Part-time (30 hpw) Support Worker to join one of our supported living teams in Chester. This role is working across two nearby services in Chester where you will be working two 15 hour shifts including two sleeps in.

About the role

In one of the services, the man you will be supporting lives in his own tenancy in the Saughall area of Chester. You will encourage him to use domestic skills to maintain his flat, and support him with his employment. He enjoys bowling, bread-making and other community based activities in and around Chester City Centre.

This is a forensic service, which means that the man we support is at risk of committing offences involving the criminal justice system. It is important therefore to follow his support plan and ensure relevant boundaries are maintained. You will receive full training in this and all other aspects.

The other service, the gentleman also lives in his own tenancy. Assistance will be required promoting evening clubs and associations, drama groups, woodwork to wellness, adult day services, snooker, bingo, meal preparation and cooking.

The two gentlemen are aged between 36 and 56. Assistance will also be required with personal hygiene.

You'll take your turn working shifts on a rota system which includes weekends and bank holidays. Your role will predominantly be days with the two sleep ins included in the shift pattern, but you may sometimes be asked to work other shift patterns and/or cover shifts in other local MacIntyre services.

The work can be demanding and doesn't suit everyone, but if it's right for you, you'll find it incredibly rewarding and valuable.

What we need from you

Experience is not necessary, as we provide a full induction and free training programme. Sometimes people join us because they have a particular interest in psychology or learning disabilities. However, your outlook is more important to us than your background. You'll need to have a positive approach and be willing to learn.

It is essential for these positions that you hold a full manual driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK, as you will be required to drive service vehicles.

Who are we?

MacIntyre is an award winning national charity supporting people with learning disabilities. Our core belief is that everyone has potential, something to offer and a valuable contribution to make to their community.

Pay and Rewards

MacIntyre offers a full induction and ongoing training, including the opportunity to gain nationally accredited vocational qualifications. We also offer a range of benefits which include:

Generous annual leave allowance of 33 days including statutory public holidays, rising with service to a maximum of 38 days after five years
Free training
Workplace pension scheme
Employee Assistance scheme to support your health and wellbeing
MacIntyre Staff Savings Scheme

Salaries are dependent on successful completion of a 6 month probation period. Part time positions are paid pro rata.
