Connecting Opportunities works with new migrants to develop their skills and opportunities to find work and be part of the local community. Ten organisations that specialise in working with migrants are offering tailored support, cultural orientation, English language classes and other training across West Yorkshire and part of North Yorkshire (Craven, Harrogate, Selby and York). The project is also creating new local connections, with opportunities for local people to be volunteer mentors and befrienders, and for employers to provide work placements to help people get a foothold in the job market.
Connecting Opportunities is funded by the Big Lottery and the European Social Fund as part of the Building Better Opportunities programme.
Our client is currently recruiting for a part time ESOL tutor to join their training centre in Bradford.
The ESOL tutor will provide English language lessons and cultural orientation to participants in the Connecting Opportunities programme. They will develop language support with the participant, overseeing and navigating participant progress through the project, carry out assessments of student needs, plan and prepare lessons and liaise with named Key Workers on progress. The ESOL tutors will assist the team in the delivery of the highest standards of support for clients referred to the service.
The successful applicant will have experience of teaching different client groups in either a paid or a voluntary capacity and have experience of working with learners who have had no previous formal education. You will be able to plan your own lessons and design interesting and creative classroom activities with resources that will engage and stimulate learners. You will have strong communication skills and be able to meet the administrative needs of the contract. You will also have a non-judgemental approach and be patient and sensitive to the needs of the client group.
It is essential the successful applicant have an ESOL teaching qualification or subject specialist qualification in ESOL at level 4/5 combined with a Cert Ed or PGCE.
