What ‘wood’ I be doing?
When some of our production machines churn out timber at speeds of 200 metres per minute (!) safety is paramount. As we have grown, we need a Health and Safety Manager to lead the way with achieving ‘zero’ incidents in our workplace. Reporting into the HR Manager, you will be fully supported in creating and achieving the Health and Safety Agenda for each site. Your responsibilities will include:
- Day to day advice to management and employees on all aspects of health and safety;
- Developing Safe Systems of Work processes, risk assessments, Standard Operating Procedures and reports,
- Presenting options for improving our safety,
- Chairing Safety committee meetings at each site once a month,
- Managing the safety budget,
- Health surveillance coordination,
- Coordinating incident reporting and investigations,
- Annual and quarterly Auditing,
- Training coordination (First aid, fire marshall, manual handling, online content)
What ‘wood’ you be like?
With over 300 employees, 25 managers and 4 sites, you will be a confident and assertive leader who can join together good practices and implement a consistent and standardised approach to the management of safety throughout our business.
Whilst we are not picky on you having a NEBOSH qualification (although it would be good to be working towards this), your ability to handle reactive situations and continue to be proactive and look to the future, will be vital. Having experience of working in a manufacturing environment, perhaps as a Team Leader, who has moved into Health and Safety, would also be a winning attribute, but not essential, as would timber or woodworking knowledge.
This role would be perfect for someone looking to step up to a manager and remain in a professional field on a part time basis; perhaps whilst enjoying semi-retirement, raising a family or starting out as a Consultant. This role will require you to cover all of our sites and travel will be necessary
The core of SCA’s business is the forest, 2.6 million hectares in northern Sweden. Around this unique resource, we have built a well-developed value chain based on renewable raw material from our own and others’ forests. We offer paper for packaging and print, pulp, wood products, renewable energy, services for forest owners and efficient transport solutions.
